SMS Terms & Consent

TameRent offers opt-in text messaging for account-related notifications to landlords and tenants. This page explains how opt-in works, what messages the program sends, how often, and how to stop.

How we collect SMS consent

Consent is always explicit and opt-in. We present the same consent language in both flows and record each agreement with a server-side timestamp:

“I agree to receive recurring automated account, transaction, and payment text messages from TameRent at the phone number I provide. Consent is not a condition of using TameRent.”

Landlord flow

During account setup at app.tamerent.com, an opt-in checkbox appears on the rent question step with the consent text above. The checkbox is unchecked by default and is optional for landlords. If checked, consent is recorded with a server-side timestamp.

Tenant flow

SMS is optional for tenants — it is never required to accept an invitation, activate an account, or pay rent. There is one way to opt in, recorded with a server-side timestamp:

  • During onboarding: enter a mobile number and check the SMS consent box shown with the language above — express written consent captured via that opt-in action. This is the only mechanism by which a tenant is enrolled.

A tenant can opt out anytime by replying STOP or turning texts off in Settings.

A future release may add an SMS-based opt-in, where a tenant replies to an invitation to subscribe. That path is not active and no such message is sent today.

Messages we send

  • To tenants: rent due reminders; payment confirmations; late-rent notices (including any late fee applied); maintenance updates on a request they submitted; lease alerts (lease ready to sign, lease up for renewal)
  • To landlords: rent-received alerts (may include the paying tenant's first name and amount); new-maintenance-request alerts; overdue-rent alerts (named tenant and amount)
  • Also: a reply to any inbound HELP keyword

Message frequency

Message frequency varies based on your account activity — typically 2–6 messages per month.

How to opt out

Reply STOP to any message to opt out at any time. You'll stop receiving SMS notifications; your account and in-app notifications are unaffected.
